My love for photography surfaced when I was eight years old as I was introduced to pinhole photography by my grandparents (Brenda and Sydney). They cleared out their cloakroom and made it in to a darkroom so I could take and develop my own pictures using a pinhole camera. One word springs to mind when using a pinhole camera and that's 'patience'!!
My interest grew as did my cameras starting with the pinhole then a Kodak disc camera and a 35mm film camera. Unfortunately both of these broke not long after I got them as they were second hand. At ten years old I got my first (one of many) 110 film camera, I took it everywhere with me - family outings, to the park and to school - anywhere I was able to take pictures. Back then it was only £2 to get a 110 film developed. After putting a film in to be developed, the day of collection used to make me nervous hoping that all my pictures had turned out ok!!
I knew from the age of eight that I wanted to be a photographer and I carried this through to high school. Unfortunately we didn't do photography at my school, it was at college that I finally got to learn more than my own knowledge.
I practice different shots all the time and different ways of taking shots, I am a freelance photographer currently working for the Salford Star magazine which gives me great opportunities to take more pictures. |
